Research area:
Mucosal infection – Inflammatory bowel disease – Intestinal microbiome – Immune epithelial communication
The main research focus of our lab is to elaborate immunological mechanisms that contribute to the control of infectious diseases or pathophysiologically relevant inflammatory reactions characterizing diseases such as inflammatory bowel diseases. To this end, we use in vitro and in vivo loss and gain of function models in combination with state-of-the-art multiomics approaches to characterize mutual interactions between innate and adaptive immune cells, the stromal and epithelial compartment and the intestinal microbiome. We anticipate that our results will elucidate novel inflammatory disease mechanisms, will support the identification of novel biomarkers and therapeutic options for patients suffering from immune-mediated inflammatory diseases.
